I bought PROTHANE Bushing Total Kit from Ebay about 5 weeks ago and had been waiting anxiously for it since it was my first time importing stuff from overseas.
Well, no more waiting for me. Look what i have here..
When i bought the kit, i wasn't only interested in the stuff but also, i wanted to know the rules and procedures in Indonesia's customs office. If this kit is successfully delivered, i won't hesitate no more when buying stuff from overseas. Well now i know and will be happy to share you the experience.
The seller uses USPS Priority Mail Service and they have "Track and Confirm" service which allows you to see the status and whereabouts of your package. You might have to ask the seller for the tracking number like i did. Here's what i got from USPS's Track and Confirm page when i checked late February.
See the question mark label? Attempted Delivery Abroad happens when they tried to deliver the package but no one was at the delivery address to receive it. But i tell you, in the words of my friend Dereck, that's BLATANT LIEZZZ.. LOL. My mom was always at home and she never was visited by any delivery guy. It turned out after an inquiry was made to our local post office, they never did and never will make the package delivery. What they're supposed to do is send us a notification letter informing us to pickup the package with all the details of the required payment. Afterward, we need pick it up ourselves and pay some import tax. The inquiry to the post office was made before they get to send that letter so we just made those f*cker's job even easier. My mom helped me pick up the letter and package after showing proof that i appointed her to represent me (i ordered it, hence it was my name on the package) and paying the tax.
Enough about the shipping details. These are what's inside the package. Mind that these bushings are made for AE86s but as Charmants share many common parts with AE86, most of these bushings will fit The Dog. Yohann warned me that i will be left with some bushings unused as he has bought the same kit for his Charmant. I for certain know that i won't be using the rear sway bar bushings as Charmants don't have them. I have asked Yohann to comment on this post informing us which bushings are unused. Help us out here Yohann!
I am guessing E and F aren't used as they're both for rear sway bars. Am i right Yohann?

Can't wait to fit them in.. Next stop, shall i go coilovers or just lowered springs + gas shocks?
hey edgar and everyone who will use this
ReplyDeletehappy to help specially after all your help to me
so he i go
a,c,d,e,G1,G2,H . will all be used.
b wont be used. as i dont really know what is for
f is as edgar said for the rear sway bar.
A- the front control arm. its the parts that connect the wheel to the front X-member.
C- is for the rear lateral bar that ballance the rear axle with the body
D- for the front sway bar
E- is the all sway bar holder that sits on the front control arm
G1 - is for the tension rods. thats the part that control the caster of the car. very very important. the pictures includes also the sway bar bushes that you wont be using as they are for diferent sizes. if D wont fit. try one of these.
H - is for the rear axle control rods.
hope i helped a bit.
Coilovers definitely, unless you're on tight budget and you aren't preparing to drive your Charmant as hard as we do, just yet... :P
ReplyDeletecouldnt agree more with stanley.
ReplyDeletethough coilover isnt for every one.
as stanley said. if you going to drive and need the car to suit you. and change the setting . then yes.
otherwise. waste of money. and backach .
i think you should buy some D2 coilover like mine. they are nice good adjusable one and you can order what ever spring reat you want. go low. and it wont be that much uncorftble.
indeed i would prefer coil-over over lowering spring/adjustable shocks combination anytime if i didn't have any other consideration.
ReplyDeletethe thing is, with my budget, i can only get D2 or Ksport coilovers and i have heard only bad reviews about them. try google "ksport coilover review" or "d2 coilover review" and you'll know what i mean.
for the same budget, i could get Koni adjustable shocks, pillow ball tops and coil-over conversion kits to modify my stock strut. these were said to outperform any Ksport or D2 coilovers. try google "ae86 short stroke conversion". or youtube "how to ae86 coilover conversion"
i am basically torn between these two options right now and until i am sure i've enough research, i won't buy any suspension part just yet.
edgar. a year of hard abuse and drifting is enought research for you
ReplyDeletehaha the funny thing. is that the front strut tower broke before the coilover.
my are superb. a litle harsh. but do the job. just make sure to consult with me about the spring rate when you going to buy them as you cant just guess witch is it!
Personal stuff have me posting a reply late here, LOL @ Edgar on the BLATANT LIEZZZZ lol, well quoted lol, happy to see that you got the bushings, coil overs are great, in my opinion if your car has not been strengthened the coil overs may do alot of harm, the bushings will lessen the stress that the car will be under, in my opinion again, i would not recommend the use of these because in opinion and not experience... i think they do alot of harm through increased harshness of ride and will weaken the car as the charmant is a classic, bolts that have not been tightened may vibrate off lol, i got standard shocks and springs with a lowered rear end to level off the car, i got it that way, i drive my car hard every day and sometimes i realize that things are slack.
ReplyDeletedereck. so you recomend in your opinion, to anyone in the world not to install coil overs?
ReplyDeleteas any car will have the simptomes you discribe.
Just learned that B is for the rear sway bar also. F are the bushings that hold the rear sway bar to the axle while B hold it to the chassis, hence the "end links" as they are positioned at each ends of the sway bar. Similar to E on the front. So.. yeah they won't be used.. Let's see if i can sell those here..
