My Easter Egg, 4A-GE Red Top

I was in Jakarta for Easter holidays. Before i went to Jakarta, i planned out all the things i want to do for The Dog while i am in Jakarta. 4A-GE hunt was one of them. I got some info from this forum about a place in Jakarta that has a complete 4A-GE for sale. It was more like a clue than info, the guy only told me there's a warehouse that has imported engines on display. No address or contact info whatsoever. So with my amazing googling skills (haha), i managed to find the warehouse's address and owner's contact info. From my previous post, you may have learned that my first priority is to get the non-TVIS, small port, 16v 4A-GE commonly known as Red Top. It's very difficult to find this version nowadays. So far, i only managed to get info on the low comp, 20 valves known as Silver Tops.

Dad helped me call Hendry from Powerboost and we found out that he was out of town and the place was closed for Easter. Fortunately, he has one person guarding the place during the holidays and told us that we can still come and check the engine out. Best of all, he has a complete 16v for sale! It could be the big ports or the small ports 4A-GE. I don't care. If it's the big ports, most probably it's the RWD version. If it's the small ports, we have the spare parts sold locally here. Both are good for The Dog.

So me and dad went to the place on April 9th 2009. It was quite difficult finding the place as we had to drive through narrow streets to reach it. Gladly we made it. We learned that the guard supervises what was actually a service station/workshop that has a warehouse. The place was huge, we had to walk quite far to reach the workshop's warehouse.

The guard unlocked the warehouse gates, turned on the lights and there it was..
w00t! I knew it was 16 valves the moment i saw it. One peek at the intake manifold, i can see only four intake runners from the throttle body. Sir, you won't find any TVIS valves in there.. So it can only mean one thing: my search has ended. This is my first priority target from all the 4A-GE versions. 16 valves, small port, no TVIS, high compression 4A-GE!

How much the owner asked for it? First of all, i knew it will be very expensive.. This is a rare engine nowadays. 20 valves are easier to find. Sadly, the dude knows how rare it is! Damn.. He offered a non-negotiable price of IDR12 millions, which is around US$1,000! Took me a while before i agreed to the price. I know.. i know.. it's too expensive, especially since i am not getting the gearbox. Well, try looking for the same engine now and you'll understand. I thought, if i delay this and try looking other place and failed, would i regret doing so if i find it was already sold? It as a quick and big YES I WOULD so i agreed.. Do you know that i can get two Silvertop 4A-GEs with that price? So, don't bother asking for the engine now. It is mine now! MUAAHAHAHA.. *cough cough*
