Update 26 January 2010: First Engine Swap Update

These were actually taken on January 23rd but i was too preoccupied to update my blog. Sorry guys, this is coz I am in the process of hunting cables and bits to wire the EFI system. Will update you more on this but first here's what The Dog looked like a few days ago.

4A-GE'S UP!

It may look like much has been done but really there's little to do to get the engine up there. Remember that no mods to the engine mounts is necessary to put a 4A-GE up there. The previously unseen details tells it all that they still have a lot to do..

Cooling pipes still missing..

Radiator fan not yet installed. This would also give you an idea of how much space available between the engine and radiator.

This one explains clearly why you need to do "cut-n-shut" to the intake plenum to move the throttle body to the other side (or use bigport's intake), there's just not enough space. The clutch master cylinder gets in the way.

Below pic shows you how 4A-C's starter motor bolts match perfectly with 4A-GE. I'll also get a plate to cover the clutch slave cylinder just below the starter just to protect it from the exhaust heat.

And these show you the engine mounts and brackets taken from the old 4A-C, no mods done.

That's all for the engine swap update. I also tried on the OG Old Skool rim both on the front and rear. The front, as i mentioned earlier, needs an inch of wheel spacer to make a perfect fit but the rear one turned out to be just OK.

Here are some fellow Japs that The Dog played with at the workshop.. Sweet KE70 and sizzling Charmant!

  1. Doood, its seriously been a while, girlfriend and car drama have me neglecting alot of stuff... even my blog lol, i was contemplating swapping the engine over the weekend but you just confirmed my fairs, that damn clutch reservoir, my idea was to examine the bottle and see if it could be relocated temporarily.... but nothing yet, i am drifting towards the cut n shut method myself.... i contacted sumone and i am going to meet with them this weekend to have the job done... providing the price is right... thanks for the much needed motivation... sumone broke my rear passenger side window behind the drivers seat and took my 145 piece tool kit, that had me upset whole week... may write about it, keep the motivational content flowing bro

yes, RWD intake only comes in bigport.

what happened with getting the bigport adapter dereck? got unbearable itch for 4A-GE eh? lol. i've always prefer the cut-n-shut because i like the messed up look from doing so. it really shows you the effort for the swap. battle scar bro, lol.

too bad The Dog was on jackstands when i tried the rim. i want to see the stance to check how low i need to go.
